Denali Park

September 17, 2014

We boarded a fancy type school bus that is used in the park to reduce emissions and congestion.  There hasn't been any congestion since we were the last boat North and Denali park will close in two days.  We had some funny lunches in a box and were thrilled when we saw a big grizzly bear on a far off hill and then saw a mom moose and her calf.  It was a clear and sunny day...did I mention we have been so lucky with the weather?

Fortunately, we could sleep, even though we didn't have the rocking of the ship  to put us to sleep.  We requested a wake up call if the Northern lights were visible, but to our chagrin, no call.  We  toured a sled dog park, where a new pup was born about 2 months ago and watched a demonstration about how sled dogs are still used in the park.  While the park is open all year, sled dogs, cross country skis and snowmobiles along with snow shoes are the only mode of transportation.

There were lots of clouds surrounding Mt. McKinley, so we were unable to have a good view:=(
