HERE WE GO AGAIN!

January 1, 2015

We're headed South again, down 35W after a hectic coupla days getting Christmas down, saying goodbye to the Seattle kids, packing up the entire kitchen and bath (kitchen remodel taking place while we are away) and getting the camper packed!  Whew!  But we did it and it felt good to say goodbye to the cold and snow as we reached green grass and warmer temps once we got away from the crazy winds in Iowa and Minnesota.  We are traveling with Xochitl's 'Puffin' this year.

We spent a couple of nights at RV parks where we've stayed before and arrived safely at Port A on Sunday, January 4th.  Fortunately, the trip down was uneventful...EXCEPT, we ran out of gas not once but twice. Yikes, good thing the driver is prepared and carries a 2 gallon can of gas with us after the Montana gas escapade.

I wasn't going to do the blog this year, but turns out, there's been a couple of funny things that have happened that we simply don't want to forget when we're sitting in our rocking chairs at the lake about 25 years from now.  So, thanks for traveling with us!

January 5,6,and 7, 2015

We got unpacked and settled on our lot and our friends, Faye and John from Minnesota arrived.  They stayed at the Days Inn, which isn't a repeat, and we had such fun showing them our life as Winter Texans with dinner at Virginia's on the Bay, lunch at the Poor Man's Country Club in Rockport and a trip down to the National Seashore.  Of course, no trip would be complete without a trip to Kody's for Wednesday night, ALL YOU CAN EAT SHRIMP....SIMPLY THE BEST.  It was such fun to have them visit.

So we get a big knock on the door, and a man says, "hi, I'm Duane from Wisconsin".  I say, "Hi Duane I'm Sandy from Minnesota".  He proceeds to ask me if I am interested in a bird house.  A free bird house.  Hummm, well, I'm thinking he makes bird houses in his camper or something.  "Well, Duane, how big are they?"  He points to a shed across the street and says, it's just like that one!  Really???? A bird house?  We call these things sheds at home.  Turns out he was getting a new one that was bigger, he had been given this one, and was giving it to us for free.  How lucky are we?  And we were going to spend $2300 to build one this year!  So now we've got a new cement slab and will put our bird house on it this weekend.  It even came with a lock with two keys and two cans of paint. Doesn't get any better than that.
